Shotton Surface Mine began operations in May 2008 to recover 3.4 million tonnes of coal. The site currently employs 140 people and contributes over £15 million into the regional economy each year. Current planning permission requires the site to be restored by 2016, however we wish to recover an additional 2 million tonnes of coal from within the site, this would require the life of the site to be extended by two years. This includes using innovative new ways to suppress dust, keeping noise and vibration to an acceptable level, dealing promptly with any issues and working closely with the local community.
