Hazlehead Wind Farm

Crow Edge, Barnsley
Site Status: The planning application has now been approved by the Council and work has begun to prepare the site for construction
Local Authority: Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

The wind farm will involve the construction of three wind turbines each with a capacity of around 2MW and a maximum tip height of 100 metres.

The location of the turbines is on land close to a waste management facility which we also have planning permission for. The turbines would complement the renewable energy which would also be produced via landfill gas generators as part of the waste management process.

Site investigations will shortly start on the site. This will provide information for the design of the foundations for the turbines.

The local electricity grid operator,YEDL, has also provided us with the information required to connect the wind farm to the grid. The connection will be to the local electricity sub station which is around 500m from the site.

Pre qualification questionnaires have been completed by a number of prospective civil engineering and electrical contractors.

A community benefits fund for the wind farm would also complement funding already provided to community projects in the area.
