Midlands & YorkshireLosk Lane Wind FarmNear Glapwell, North Derbyshire Site Status: We expect to submit a planning application once key factors have been considered. This is due in 2010. Local Authority: Bolsover District Council Key features of the proposed wind farm: · We are proposing the construction of three wind turbines, each with a capacity of up to 2.5 megawatts (MW). · This could provide up to 7.5MW of renewable electricity, or enough electricity for over 4000 homes*. · East Midlands currently has approximately 102MW of installed energy with a further 32MW under construction, it is therefore on its way to meeting the 2020 minimum target of 175MW, this scheme wouldassist in meeting this target. · The electricity will be generated from a renewable energy source with no carbon dioxide emissions. · The electricity is an indigenous source of energy. · Turbine dimensions have been set at a maximum height of 125m to blade tip, with a typical hub height of approximately 80m. Wind turbines with larger rotors and greater tip heights generally produce more green energy. · The wind farm would be operational for 25 years, with around 12 months for construction and decommissioning. · The grid connection would be to a local substation either underground or by overhead cables on wooden poles. · We have taken on board feedback during the initial consultation process and the wind farm has been reduced in both size and turbine numbers from that proposed within the scoping report. *Based on a capacity of 7.5MW and 30% capacity factor If you want to know more about wind farm development the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace have set up an informative and comprehensive web site at http://www.yes2wind.com/.
