Stakeholders set to gather for Eco-town briefing meeting

Key stakeholders in the development process of proposals for the Cardenden eco-town are set to meet next week for a seminar on the latest progress with the scheme.
Hamilton-based developers Banks Developments is hosting the key stakeholder briefing on Tuesday 12 August, to give key stakeholders the chance to comment on proposals, ask questions and to help shape the delivery of a robust and sustainable development.
The Chairman of the Cardenden Community Steering Group, which was set up earlier in the year by Banks to give local people a say in the shape of the eco-town proposals, will also be attending the event.
Banks Developments is hoping to transform the four former mining communities of Auchterderren, Bowhill, Cardenden and Dundonald through housing-led regeneration and sustainable expansion, and will be submitting the eco-town proposals to the Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative as an exemplar of highest quality development.
The proposed scheme includes a wide range of sustainable eco-houses, including terrace, semi-detached, detached and apartments; the regeneration of the existing area; provision of improved facilities and employment; and use of the latest technologies and renewable energy sources throughout the development.
Siobhan Samson, community engagement coordinator at Banks Developments, says: “With such a wide-ranging and comprehensive scheme, it’s crucial that we make every effort to keep key stakeholders as well as the local community involved, so that they can have real input to the proposals, ensuring that they are deliverable.
“This seminar is the latest stage of our communication process, and gives us a chance to bring everyone up to speed on the progress we’ve been making over the last few months. “The Cardenden eco-town has the potential to set the gold standard for sustainable design in Scotland, and we will continue to liaise with the community and key stakeholders over the next few months as we refine the plans for the development.” Last updated: Monday 04 August 2008, 17:16 PM
