Second 'eco-town' residents committee meeting set to take place

Monday 18 August 2008

The second meeting of a community liaison committee that will help shape proposals for the Cardenden ‘eco-town’ development is set to take place at the end of the month.

The committee of sixteen local people, who are drawn from all parts of the community, will meet on Wednesday 27 August at the Bowhill Centre.

And high on their agenda will be the details of the new eco-town masterplan.

The committee meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the latest developments around the eco-town plans and to put any queries raised by other local people to the project team members from Banks Developments who will also be attending the group meeting.

It is designed to enable local residents to have their say on the scheme as it progresses, and also allows Banks to provide project updates, which committee members can then feed back to their local areas.

Banks Developments is aiming to transform the four former mining communities of Auchterderren, Bowhill, Cardenden and Dundonald through housing-led regeneration and sustainable expansion.

Siobhan Samson, community engagement coordinator at Banks Developments, says: “Giving the local community a direct voice in the development of the eco-town proposals is crucial if we are to produce a proposal which truly meets local needs and reflects local priorities.

“There is obviously a great deal of interest in what we’re proposing, and the committee provides an effective forum for debate and discussion around what is happening now and what is going to happen in the future.”

Anyone with any questions they would like raised at the committee meeting can contact Siobhan Samson at Banks Developments on 01698 477410 or via siobhan.samson@banksdevelopments.com
