Updated Losk Lane Wind Farm Proposals Going On Show

Updated plans for a new wind farm to the south of Bolsover will be going on show to the public at two exhibitions later this month.

Barlborough-based firm Banks Developments put forward outline plans for the Losk Lane scheme on land to the north of Glapwell, approximately two miles to the east of the M1 motorway, at the end of 2008.

Since then, feedback from local people and other statutory consultees has been gathered and reviewed, with the proposals being updated to reflect the comments received.

The updated plans will now be going on show between 3pm and 7pm on Wednesday 17 March at the Glapwell Community Centre, and between the same times on the following day at Palterton Community Centre.

Members of the Banks Developments team will be on hand at the exhibitions to answer queries from local people about the proposed scheme and to gather further feedback from them.

The proposed Losk Lane development would now encompass three turbines with a maximum height to tip of 125m, and would generate up to 7.5 MW of renewable energy per annum.

The scheme’s location has been chosen due to the suitability of the landscape and the recorded strength of the wind in the area.

Should the plans be approved, the communities around the development will benefit directly from a package of initiatives designed to help tackle fuel poverty and to enable community groups to install other forms of renewable energy

A planning application is expected to be submitted by Banks to Bolsover District Council by April 2010.

Phil Dyke, managing director of Banks Renewables, says: “The feedback we have received during our public consultation process has been very valuable in shaping the final design of our proposals, and we’re keen for as many people as possible to see the scheme that we will be putting forward for planning approval.

The Losk Lane wind farm would provide enough renewable energy to power more than 4,000 local homes and businesses without generating any harmful greenhouse gases, and would also enable us to provide support a range of initiatives that would greatly benefit local communities.

“Recognition of the need for and importance of wind farm schemes such as Losk Lane is clearly growing, and we hope the merits of this proposal will be recognised by the District Council’s planning committee.”
